Since 2012, the Veritable Records of the Joseon Dynasty have been translated into English under the auspices of the National Institute of Korean History (NIKH). This project was initiated by then President of the NIKH, Professor Emeritus Tae-jin Yi of Seoul National University, who is serving as President of the Sillok Institute.
In 2012, the English translation project of the Veritable Records of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea was designated as the 82nd Patronage Project by the Union Académique Internationale (UAI), “the global organization of national academies in the fields of the humanities and social sciences.” Professor Yi is a current board member of the UAI.
In September 2018, the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Korea will be hosting a board meeting of the UAI. After the board meeting, some interesting findings of Sillok research regarding the “little ice age” of the 16th–18th centuries will be presented to the UAI board members by Professor Yi. And Hacksun Cha, Chief Researcher at the Sillok Institute, will make a presentation on the proposed publication project of the Sillok Institute and on the future of the Veritable Records rendered in English.
